For many years Ritter Park has been considered the Crown Jewel of the Park District. Its 75 acres and numerous amenities contributed to it being designated one of the top ten "Best Public Spaces in America" by the American Planning Association in 2012. Ritter Park is known for its walking path featuring a crushed limestone loop that encourages health as many walkers, joggers, dog walkers and bicyclists share the multi-purpose pathway. Another Ritter Park favorite is the award winning Rose Garden and the accompanying Room With A View, a popular local event venue. With over 3300 roses, many of which are historic AAS winners, the Ritter Park Rose Garden is a top choice for June weddings and events. Ritter Park also features Huntington's PetSafe Dog Park a local favorite for dog-owners since its development in 2011. The PetSafe Dog Park was built as a result of Huntington becoming the first winner of $100,000 prize of the PetSafe "Bark for your Park" contest. If you're a tennis player, the Ritter Park Tennis Facility offers 11 newly refurbished courts. The park features two large picnic shelters, two playgrounds, two Little Free Library Boxes and seasonal restroom facilities at the shelter. Many of the area's walks and runs originate at Ritter Park with several of the park's amenities available for rent. A wedding at the "Stone Circle" or a family reunion by the fountain are also not uncommon sites during the season. Nestled in the pines near the top of the park is the Ritter Park Amphitheater, home of the Huntington Area Regional Theater (HART), and other events! Outdoor Community Theater is at its best in June and July each year and a number of seasonal shows and activities including the Ritter Live Free Concert Series and the Huntington Music & Art Festival. Plenty of green space, walking, hiking trails, and many historic points of interest make Ritter Park a favorite destination for both Huntingtonians and visitors to our area alike.
