GHPRD Executive Director Search

The Board of Park Commissioners of the Greater Huntington Park & Recreation District is currently searching for the best candidate to fill the position of Executive Director.  Working with an eleven-member Board, potential candidates will possess the qualifications, skills and experience to administer and direct a continually growing and changing Parks & Recreation District that includes 14 Parks, 4 Cemeteries and a diverse Recreation Division which serves 2 Counties and the City of Huntington in Southwest West Virginia.

This individual will be required to continue operations in a manner consistent with the recent path, by completing existing projects and goals, holding steadfast on existing policies and procedures, and working to accomplish our agency mission, which is: “To provide a wide variety of year-round recreation programs, facilities, parks, open spaces and natural areas that respond to the needs of the community as we strive to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors to our area.”

Examples of continuing projects include the final phases of the St. Cloud’s All-Inclusive Park project and the Rotary Park Enhancement project and numerous others that are in-process or planned.

Outstanding candidate will be adept in policy and decision making, contract administration, negotiations, budget management, staff development, facilities and programs management, park maintenance, capital planning and development and improvements to promote community involvement, as well as have knowledge of the legislative process and government operations.

Selected candidate will possess education and experience equivalent to or greater than a Bachelor’s degree in Parks & Recreation, Business Management or related field and a minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in the Direction and Management of a Parks & Recreation Agency, or a related field of Management. CPRP designation preferred.
